His Excellency the Mayor of Surda–Abu Qash, Mr. Mohammad Mousa Ramadan, received the Minister of Education and Higher Education, H.E. Dr. Amjad Barham, along with his accompanying delegation from the Ministry and the Directorate, on an official visit aimed at exploring avenues for strengthening joint cooperation in the education sector.
During the meeting, the Municipality highlighted the significant efforts undertaken in collaboration with the Birzeit Directorate of Education over the period (2022–2024). Approximately NIS 2,202,413 from education tax revenues was invested in improving the educational environment in Surda and Abu Qash schools. This reflects the Municipality’s commitment to mobilizing all available resources to advance the education sector. These projects included a range of targeted interventions to enhance school infrastructure and readiness, most notably:
The meeting also addressed the new school currently being developed by the Municipality at a strategic location, aimed at serving students from Surda, Abu Qash, and surrounding areas. The project is expected to provide a balanced educational environment and alleviate overcrowding in existing schools.
Furthermore, a proposal was discussed to open a scientific stream at Abu Qash Girls Secondary School, in response to students’ needs and with the aim of expanding secondary education options, contingent upon the availability of a sufficient number of students.
For his part, the Minister expressed his full support for the proposed initiatives and commended the Municipality of Surda Abu Qash for its efforts in supporting education and improving school facilities. He also congratulated the Municipal Council on the upgrade of the Municipality’s classification from Category (C) to Category (B), considering this achievement as evidence of institutional and administrative progress.
Following the meeting, a field visit was conducted to Abu Qash Girls Secondary School, where the Minister and delegation toured the Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate Examination) halls and observed the examination environment.
